The incision and a fever

Above are pictures of the actual incision. The black below the steri-strips is marker that the resident drew to locate where the redness around the incision was. The first picture of Emily's face shows the dressings on the table that I had to take off to get the pictures...

Last night I went to bed about 1:30 a.m. Emily had been laying in our bed with Ryan. As soon as I climbed in bed, I could tell that Emily had a fever. Her whole body radiated heat. I got up and took her temperature... 101.7. Crap. I started to panic a little, came downstairs and called the resident on-call for plastic surgery. He said that a fever is definitely a concern. He asked if she was acting sick. Well, duh - she was asleep. I told him that she was moaning in her sleep but that definitely could be due to the fever. He basically said that I could wait to bring her in until the morning but to call/come in if she got worse or if the redness around the incision had spread. I gave her some ibuprofen and tried to get a little sleep.

This morning, Emily has been acting like she just doesn't feel good. Her temp is 99.3... Not really a fever... I think that the incision is hurting her more, so we are going to give her Lortab. The resident that discharged us called me this morning. She was pretty concerned... She said that if she starts running a fever again, to come down to the ER at PCMC and they would do blood cultures to find out what is going on.

I swear, things can never be easy...

Primary Children's has a rule that if a child has a fever, they will stay until they know why. The kid will be admitted and the tests begin.

When Dan did his peds rotation I joked that I'd take Lily in for a fever just so we could spend the night with Dan.

I'm so sorry!!! I really hope that she is doing well and that recovery is quick and easy. How come it seems like nothing is every easy when you are going through a trial that you are ready to end? I pray that this too shall pass and that you have some quiet moments in your future!

Wow! She looks so good. The Incision is quite large, but boy it looks so much better than the open wound. Poor little Em has been through so much! She is quite the trooper!

Let me know if you need anything, I know I dont live very close, but I would do what ever you needed.

Love you guys!
