The surgery is over and she did well!

I updated my Facebook page with a little information but here is the scoop on the surgery...
We got to PCMC about 7:15, checked in, and then waited and waited and waited. Once they finally got us in, they did the pre-assessment, her vital signs, asked lots of questions. We were then escorted to the pre-op waiting area. Dr. Saddiqi came in and met with us and then the anesthesiologist came in. When the OR was ready at 9:00 a.m., we walked out into the hallway and handed off Emily to the anesthesiologist. It was so sad... She was screaming and holding her arms out to us. I think her dad got a little teary-eyed.
We went to the cafeteria, had some breakfast, then headed back to the surgery waiting room. At about 10:15, Dr. Sadiqqi came in and told us that the surgery went well. He said that Emily has a very large incision but that he was able to close the wound and she that won't need a wound vac or skin graft. YEA!!! He did put a JP drain in to drain off all of the excess fluid and he said that we would be here until Friday, mostly for pain control.

I was then able to go see her in the PACU (post-anesthesia). Only one adult is allowed in at a time... When I got there, the nurse was holding her. She said that she had been fussing in her crib and that as soon as she picked her up, she stopped fussing and went to sleep. She also gave her some Fentanyl for the pain.

About 15 minutes later, we met Ryan and headed up to the Children's Surgical Unit (3rd floor). We were originally supposed to go to the infant unit, but they were full. So far, we are the only patients in this pod. Our nurse, Jessica, is very nice and seems very good. She has been very concerned about Emily and asks us often if we need anything.

Emily slept for quite a while when we got up here but then really started to cry. We determined that the Fentanyl had worn off so the nurse gave her some Morphine. After a little while, she played with toys and was quite happy on Ryan's lap. It was so nice to see her sweet smile.

As I mentioned, she has a JP drain in the wound, IV fluids/pain meds in her PICC line, and a pulse ox sensor on her toe. She has a large compression bandage around the incision... We can't even see it. They did start another IV line in her hand in case they had to give her blood (which they did not).

I don't know that I mentioned this, but they will also be doing a head CT while we are here. Dr. Siddiqi is concerned that Emily may have craniosynotosis. Basically this means that the fibrous joints between the bones of the skull (sutures) may have closed too soon. I am hoping and praying that she doesn't have this... If so, it will mean major surgery... In the OR for 7-8 hours, a couple of days in the ICU, a week in the hospital. At this point, we just have to cross one bridge at a time.

Thank you for all of your love, support, and prayers. We hope that this is the beginning of her healing and that the next few days are tolerable for her in terms of pain.
