This year, Tyler played Babe Ruth baseball for the first time. He has played baseball two other years but this was his first year in the National League. He was drafted by the Cubs with Coach Rich, Coach Mac, and Coach Spencer. What an AWESOME experience it has been!!
The coaches were great! Tyler was nicknamed "Wolfman" and was given so much encouragement and instruction. He mostly played shortstop, 2nd base, and center field. Tyler grew so much this season and really increased his skills and confidence. The coaches were always positive and never gave up on the boys.
The Cubs had an up and down season... We went into the tournament at the end of the season in 9th place out of 15 teams. Well, at the end of the tournament, we ended up in 4th place!!! The tournament was double elimination. We won the first game (by a lot), lost the second game, then proceeded to win the next three. The 5th game was an incredible comeback - the boys fought hard and won by 3!! Unfortunately, we lost our game Saturday night to the Padres. But 4th place gets trophies and that's what we were shooting for!!
What a fun season and tournament it has been. The girls and I have painted our faces for the tournament games and sprayed our hair blue for the game Saturday night. Tyler even let me cut a C in his hair! We have loved going to the games and cheering for the boys. I loved socializing with the parents and Megan loved spending money at the snack bar!
The coaches are going to take the boys to a Salt Lake Bees game to celebrate their great season. After the game, we all went to one of the coach's house and just hung out. The boys played football (where do they get all of their energy?) while the parents chatted and ate. I realized how much I'm really going to miss baseball. I used to give my sister a hard time about getting so into it... I totally get it now!! I love watching the game, the socialization, the whole thing. It's fun to see people I know at the games and to watch my son play a game he loves.
I think that Tyler has found "his" sport and really wants to work hard to improve. We are hoping that a Fall league is going to be setup so that Tyler can continue to play throughout the year. We LOVE this game!!!

I grew up watching all of my brothers play ball, some making it to national tournaments and all-star games. I loved every second of it for the exact reasons you've listed. It was such a great bonding experience for our family. I miss it so much but every time I hear the crack of a bat against a ball I smile and can't wait for my own little family to start playing ball. Good Job Tyler! And what a great nickname!
