I found the headboard/footboard on KSL. Love, love the distressed look!! Here is a pic with just sheets on it...
It is in need of some seriously cute fluffy bedding as you can see.
First night in the new bed. Comforter is the twin size that Megan used to have. :-)
Next I decided that the girls needed a new dresser. They had been using a particle board dresser/bookshelf thing that we bought when Kailey was little for like $50. It had stickers and marker all over it and was falling apart. When Ryan's dad moved out of his house, there was a dresser there that used to be Ryan's grandma's. Darrel gave it to me and I had great visions of what it could be (although they were hard to see - it was scratched, dirty, missing a knob).
Don't you love the 70's hardware?
I removed the old hardware, filled the holes, primed the whole thing with Gripper. I then applied two coats of my favorite white paint (Behr Swiss Coffee in Satin) and one coat of polycrylic. I didn't know what to do about the hardware... I did NOT want to spend a fortune on pulls/knobs for a dresser that was free. I stopped at Restore last week (the awesome Habitat for Humanity store that I posted about on FB) and found some some sweet brass hardware... 4 heavy high-quality knobs and 3 pulls for $5. Yes - $5 total. I spray painted the hardware with my favorite spray paint (Oil Rubbed Bronze) and my sweet husband attached them to the dresser. After some distressing with some sand paper, here is the finished product:
I must say that I love it!! It is definitely not the highest quality dresser in the world and may only last a couple of years, but you can't beat the price!! :-)
I also removed their closet doors... They have a huge closet and the doors were heavy. Poor Emily couldn't ever get into their toys. I definitely don't love looking into the closet every time I go into the room but I guess it's motivation to keep it organized!!
Here is a view of the room... Keep in mind, the wall hangings are all in the wrong place now, there are two lovely holes/patches that ripped off when I moved a couple of things.
And just for kicks, here are a couple of pics of my cuties...
