Our family loves to visit Temple Square at the Salt Lake LDS Temple in December. For Ryan and I, this tradition was started by Ryan's mom and dad. When I joined the family (and I'm sure before), the whole family would meet at ZCMI mall to have dinner and then walk over to see the lights. I have such good memories of Ryan's whole family being together and especially have sweet memories of Ryan's mom, Deanna. We had so much fun and loved being together.
Although Ryan's family hasn't done this for a few years (and ZCMI mall no longer exists), we have carried this tradition on in our own family. For us it has changed a little bit... We usually get dinner somewhere on the way in and then ride Trax downtown. Our kids, especially the younger ones, get so excited about riding the train!!
The Christmas lights at Temple Square are amazing. Hundreds of thousands of lights are strung everywhere. Most trees have every single branch wrapped. Our favorite part is the Nativity Scene with music and the reading of the story of Jesus' birth from the Bible and also going to see the Christus. What an amazing feeling we have when at this beautiful, holy place. Visiting Temple Square is an important part of the Christmas season for us and reinforces the "reason for the season".
