Dr. Gould called today and Emily's wound has E. coli and pseudomonas. Yuck. The Augmentin that she is currently on will treat the E. coli but not the pseudomonas. Pseudomonas is a bacteria that is resistant to a lot of antibiotics so most likely she will have to be changed to Cipro (which is an antibiotic that is much stronger). It is also associated with hospitals.... Guess who definitely will be changing her scrubs BEFORE she leaves work now?
On a brighter note, Ryan became radioactive today. He went to Huntsman Cancer this morning and they injected four different sites around the mole site with a radioactive dye. He was then placed under a scanner and the sentinel lymph nodes were located/glowing (two in his groin). At least he will only end up with two incisions (leg and groin). I think that the lymph node incision will be small.
He has to be at Huntsman at 8:40. The OR is scheduled for his surgery from 10:40 to 12:40. He will probably then be in recovery for about an hour.
Our prayers will be fervent tonight... Hopefully Ryan does well and the result delivers us an early Christmas present.
